Our Family
Research Sync

A privately operated synchronization tool supporting the research behind Ghosts in the Margins, a family history and archival storytelling project.

What this application does

Family history is pieced together from photographs, historic records, personal research, and source material kept in private research folders. Our Family Research Sync is designed to inventory those materials, detect newly saved versions, and maintain a searchable, versioned evidence register for the owner.

When explicitly enabled, it may create new, version-numbered research database releases and audit summaries in the owner's Google Drive. The application is not a public genealogy search service and does not provide family-member login.

Why Google Drive access is requested

The sync process needs to list and read documents in owner-selected research collections and, when authorized, write new research output files. Its current OAuth configuration requests broad Google Drive access, although ordinary scanning is limited by the project's configured folder list. The owner controls the Google account, access grant, and whether the optional write mode is active.

It does not automatically make private source files public, determine ancestral relationships, or replace historical conclusions without review.

Privacy and control

Read the privacy policy for what information can be read and stored, where the research data goes, and how the owner can withdraw Google access.

This informational site does not request Google account sign-in, OAuth tokens, passwords, or family research uploads.
